Facebook Live Series | Plus Freebies
During the month of February 2026, I collaborated with the World Language Teacher Lounge’s Facebook Page to launch a series of Facebook Lives surrounding the intersection of Black History Month and Afro-Latinidad. We all know this: Black History is not limited to February. Every month, week, and day is a great opportunity to expose our students to the diverse peoples and cultures that are part of the target culture that we teach. I do this my finding intersections between communities of the African diaspora of Latin America and the United States.
Here’s what you can expect from these videos:
🌍 Clear, classroom-appropriate context on the African diaspora + how it connects to Spanish language and culture
📓 A simple framework for teaching this responsibly (language contact, community voices, and dialect/attitude conversations)
👩🏽🏫 Classroom-ready routines you can repeat (short, scaffoldable, Spanish 1+ friendly) with before/during/after structures
💻 Curated examples + authentic resources (music, poetry, videos, and visuals) that highlight Afrodescendant/Afro-Latino voices
👨🏻💻 Low-prep student tasks + reflection prompts that build critical listening, empathy, and intercultural understanding—without “one-day-only” vibes
🎉🎉🎉¡Diviértete! Enjoy these topics as background listening or study intently. You’re bound to gather valuable nuggets of cultural information!
