As March approaches, I find myself eagerly anticipating the many enriching experiences it brings! March is not just another month; it’s a vibrant tapestry woven with cultural wonders and learning opportunities, particularly in the realms of interculturality & intersectionality in Spanish lessons. Women’s History Month offers so many moments to explore the lived experiences of amazing Mujeres. We can also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a meaningful way by connecting it to Spanish history! Semana Santa, Music in Our School Month, National Indigenous Language Day, and more blend together to showcase the beauty and diversity of our target culture/language. Join me as we embark on a journey through this dynamic month, delving into the cultural nuances and linguistic treasures that await.

I. Women’s History Month
March is a great moment to dedicate class time to uplifting and affirming the voices of Hispanic women in our Spanish lessons! Check out the below blog post which is chock full of freebies and everything you need for the month of March + #WHM.
HIGHLIGHTED RESOURCE ⬇️:
My favorite resources for #WHM is first this all-in-one bundle: readings, worksheets, music, and more! Check it out!

And second, this newer Social Justice/Activism-based resource based on the Ni Una Menos movement!

II. Semana Santa
Semana Santa is one of my favorite holidays in Spain–full of symbolism, history, and tradition, Semana Santa is a jewel. I observed it in Sevilla, Spain, where Semana Santa is said to be celebrated with full gusto. Take your students on a virtual field trip to Spain! Check out my 5 facts about Semana Santa in the blog post embedded below! Start prepping now for this April celebration.

III. St. Patrick’s Day
Did you know that there is a Spanish + Irish connection? What a great time to explore it than around St. Patrick’s Day?! Check out my blog post below for my exploration of this unlikely but unique connection!
HIGHLIGHTED RESOURCE ⬇️:

IV. National Indigenous Language Day
We do not cover the lived experiences or culture of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas or Asia nearly as much as we should in class! Indigenous Peoples form a large part of what it means to be “Latino” and that should be upheld and affirmed. Learn more in your personal research, my blog post below, and other resources that you think might be helpful for your students’ experience in Spanish class.

V. Music in Our Schools Month + Int’l Women in Music Day (28th)
There is so much that I can say about music. I am a music lover extraordinaire. Check out my music resources in my TPT store! Almost every webquest and notebook that I create has a musical perspective in it. Also see my fun blog post on selecting music for your class.

VI. Ramadan
What a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Muslim-practicing Arab community in our curriculum during the month of Ramadan! I have many students who are fasting and observing Ramadan and since in 2025 it happens to fall in March, we can use resources to show the immense contributions of the Muslim community to the Spanish community. Intersectionality at it’s best! Check out the resources below; some are for Arab American Month (April) but can be repurposed for now!
The best resources in town for intersectionality between these two cultures (if I do say so myself!):
