Afro-Latinos, Africa, and Latin Music

Today I’ll be sharing with you a mini lesson that I teach to my students every year about the borrowing of musical tropes back and forth, to and from Africa & Latin America, why that is and how we can see that it contemporary culture! It takes about 20 minutes (or less, depending on how much information you pack into it!). I can’t wait to do it this year. Right now, I’m slated to do it in March, and that’s ok–because Afro-Latinos should be celebrated every month!
